Carlos Alcaraz knocked down a peg in ‘unconvincing’ Alexander Zverev assessment

Carlos Alcaraz faces a challenging reality check as he prepares for the Paris Masters, with questions surrounding his performance on indoor hard courts. Ivan Ljubicic, former coach to tennis legend Roger Federer, recently expressed doubts about Alcaraz’s adaptability on the indoor surface.

Although Alcaraz has excelled on outdoor courts, his record indoors has been less impressive, particularly at the Paris Masters and ATP Finals. Last year, he exited early in Paris and struggled against Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals in Turin.

Ljubicic believes that while Alcaraz is a top player, others—specifically Alexander Zverev and Jannik Sinner—are better suited to dominate this season’s indoor events.

Despite these reservations, Alcaraz has shown promise, recently playing a key role in Team Europe’s Laver Cup victory and winning his first post-US Open title at the China Open. He also delivered strong performances in Spain’s Davis Cup qualifier, bolstering his confidence ahead of the Paris Masters.

As the second seed, Alcaraz aims to make a deep run and improve on last year’s quarter-final finish, where an abdominal injury forced his early exit. With his form rising, Alcaraz is determined to prove his critics wrong and end his season on a high note in Paris and Turin.
