Why Is Scottie Scheffler Not Part of Tiger Woods’s TGL? Possible Reasons Explored

Scottie Scheffler, the reigning world number one and 2024 PGA Tour star, has shocked fans by opting out of Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy’s innovative TGL league. Known for his seven wins on the PGA Tour, including a Masters victory, the PLAYERS Championship, and a gold medal at the 2024 Olympics, Scheffler’s absence from TGL is unexpected.

Many top players, such as Xander Schauffele, Patrick Cantlay, and Collin Morikawa, have joined the simulator league, making Scheffler’s decision even more notable. While it’s unclear whether he declined an invitation or wasn’t offered one, the reason could be linked to TGL’s Florida-centric venue, which might not align with the Texas-based golfer’s lifestyle.

In addition to location, Scheffler’s new family commitments likely influenced his choice. After becoming a father to Bennett Scheffler, the golfer has emphasized prioritizing family over additional tournaments. Scheffler’s recent comment, saying his family is now his main focus, hints that the intense TGL schedule may not fit his desired work-life balance.

Known to play a lighter schedule than some peers, Scheffler skipped a few major events even in 2024 to maintain a less grueling pace. With TGL launching in January, joining would have required more travel and time away from family—factors that may have led the world’s top player to step back from the league.
