“Bummed I won’t be able to embrace all the fans” – Lexi Thompson slams CME Group Tour Championship over double tee offs

Lexi Thompson, a decorated golfer with a 15-year career on the LPGA Tour, is preparing to bid farewell to professional golf at the 2024 CME Group Tour Championship. However, her final round at Tiburon Golf Club in Naples, Florida, has been marred by disappointment.

The dual-tee system, implemented to accommodate TV coverage, means Thompson will finish her career on the 9th hole instead of the iconic 18th. Expressing her feelings on Instagram, she shared her regret at missing the opportunity to embrace fans at the final hole.

“Bummed I won’t be able to embrace all the incredible fans on 18 tomorrow,” she wrote, adding her gratitude for the support she’s received throughout her career.

Thompson’s final round, set to tee off at 8:50 AM ET on November 24, pairs her with Linn Grant and Esther Henseleit. A past champion at this event, having won in 2018, Thompson’s legacy includes 11 LPGA Tour wins and a Major championship.

Despite facing challenges this season, she recorded four top-10 finishes, including a runner-up position at the Meijer LPGA Classic. As she concludes her professional journey, Thompson’s achievements and dedication to the sport remain an inspiration to golf fans worldwide.
