Matildas captain Sam Kerr has expressed heartfelt gratitude to fans for their support after her grandmother, Coral Kerr, was struck by a car in Palmyra. The 89-year-old remains in serious condition at Royal Perth Hospital following the incident, which occurred near her home on Friday morning.

Sam, who was in NSW for a teammate’s wedding, flew to Perth on Saturday and rushed to her grandmother’s side, accompanied by her brother Daniel Kerr. In a touching Instagram message, Sam thanked fans for their love and prayers, while her father, Roger Kerr, described the family’s shock at the tragedy.

The driver involved has been charged with dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm and will appear in court in February. The incident, tragically, occurred at the same intersection where Sam’s grandfather was killed two decades ago. Authorities are urging anyone with information or footage of the crash to assist the investigation.
