How Lexi Thompson Graciously Responded to Haters With a Firm Statement

Lexi Thompson, a familiar name on the LGPA Tour, has been a favorite of many despite not always basking in the glory in recent years. Her journey to fame began at a young age when she clinched her first and only Major victory at the age of 19 during the 2014 Chevron Championship.

However, the spotlight brought with it its fair share of scrutiny and negativity. Lexi was no stranger to criticism, but she was not about to remain silent. Let’s delve into the events that transpired on Lexi’s Instagram post.

In 2016, two years after her initial Major win, Thompson continued to impress with remarkable performances. During her first nine starts in the 2016 LGPA Tour season, she secured four top-10 finishes. Nevertheless, at the Texas Shootout, she failed to make the cut.

A few days following this setback, Lexi Thompson shared a photo on her Instagram while engaging in a treadmill training session, captioning it with, “My outlet to clear my mind…”. However, two individuals could not resist criticizing her. One suggested she should focus on her game instead of posting “pretty stuff,” while another commented that she should be embarrassed for her performance in Texas.

In response to these unwarranted comments, Lexi decided to take a stand. She responded with a heartfelt message, saying, “I sign every autograph at my tournaments and take pics with everybody, go to every sponsor party. I practice and train my butt off. I don’t want my whole page to be all about golf.” She further added, “And yes, I had a bad week, but neither of you knows what I was dealing with this week, and I’m human, not perfect. I can’t play well every week; please realize that and comment something positive because that hurts, and I won’t deal with it.”

Lexi Thompson’s message was not only impactful but also influential. It prompted the haters to reflect on their actions and led to them apologizing to the 28-year-old golfer. One of the critics admitted, “I was wrong, I don’t know what you deal with on an everyday basis, and I’m sorry.”

Even though Lexi disabled the comments section in her post, the outpouring of positive and supportive messages continued. It’s not often that athletes receive sincere apologies from their cyberbullies. Thanks to Thompson’s eloquent message, it brought out the best in even the worst of situations.
