Ivo Karlovic, the towering presence on the ATP World Tour at 6ft 11in, has been making waves in the world of tennis. As the former Wimbledon quarter-finalist and the holder of the record for the fastest serve in tennis history, clocking an astounding 156mph, Karlovic is a formidable figure on the court. Currently ranked world No. 79, he is competing at the PBZ Zagreb Indoors in his hometown and recently tied the record for the most aces in an ATP best-of-three set match by smashing 44 aces during his first-round victory over Daniel Brands.

When asked about his most memorable match, Karlovic recounted his impressive performance at the Dnipro Challenger in 2003 against Stefano Pescosolido. He reminisced about being in the zone, delivering a series of aces, and securing a dominant 6-2, 6-2 win. It was a match filled with unbelievable backhands, a rare sight in tennis.

On the flip side, Karlovic was candid about his worst match, a contest against Richard Gasquet in Hamburg in 2005. He found himself a set and 1-0 down, and the game was so challenging that he decided to quit. It’s a testament to the ups and downs that athletes face in their careers.

When it comes to choosing a historical doubles partner, Karlovic expressed his interest in teaming up with the legendary Gabriela Sabatini or the iconic Boris Becker. He fondly recalled watching Boris Becker play during his youth, which left a lasting impression on him.

In the competitive world of tennis, camaraderie is essential. Karlovic revealed that his best friend in the locker room is Teymuraz Gabashvili. Together, they enjoy hanging out, going for dinner, and having fun when they travel the world for tournaments.

During press conferences, Karlovic often faces questions about his extraordinary height and why he didn’t pursue basketball. He humorously noted that these inquiries are quite common, but he handles them with grace.

Karlovic’s passion for sports extends beyond tennis. He revealed that his favorite sports team is the Miami Heat, and he vividly remembers attending the NBA Finals in Miami. The electric atmosphere and the Heat’s victory left an indelible mark on him.

As for his preferred travel destination, Karlovic spoke highly of Jamaica, where he had a memorable visit in 2009. He described the place as relaxed, with friendly people, and exceptional food, making it an ideal destination for unwinding.

When it comes to music and movies, Karlovic’s tastes are diverse. He has a penchant for Notorious B.I.G.’s “Juicy” and recently watched “The Shawshank Redemption,” which he found to be an incredible cinematic experience.

In a lighthearted moment, Karlovic was asked about his dream last meal on earth. His choices were intriguing, with Jesus for redemption, and a playful mention of John F. Kennedy and Rihanna, though he quickly noted that he didn’t wish any harm on Rihanna.

Finally, if Karlovic could change one rule in tennis, he’d opt for indoor matches only to eliminate the unpredictability of weather conditions. He believes this change would lead to more consistent and successful matches.

Ivo Karlovic, with his towering presence and engaging personality, continues to be a prominent figure in the world of tennis, and his journey is one that fans around the world eagerly follow.
