Jordan Spieth has, after several years of searching, once again become a player to reckon with. The journey back after completely losing his game, of course, began long ago.

But it was earlier this year that we truly saw that brilliant player who captivated an entire golf-crazed planet. And the first glimpses actually came at Torrey Pines. It was at the Farmers Insurance Open that the American stepped up.

His form is back, and his confidence is high. Perhaps now we can see the major winner back in contention for victory in one of the four biggest tournaments.
“I was out on the course with Mike (Greller, his caddie), and I was reminded that some shots were completely impossible earlier this year, but now I felt comfortable with them,” Spieth told the media on site.
“It was here that I began to find a feeling of what a ball strike should feel like again. I began to rediscover what was such a big advantage for such a long time, my DNA that I had lost. I then started working back to being stable with that ball strike.”

After the Farmers Insurance Open, he finished tied for fourth in Phoenix, tied for third at Pebble Beach. Then tied for 15th in Los Angeles and tied for fourth in Orlando.
After a tied ninth place in Austin, Jordan Spieth also managed to win the Valeri Texas Open in San Antonio, his first victory in almost four years. In his last five starts, he has three top-10 finishes, including a tied third place in The Masters.
“I am in a position where I can stand on the first tee on Thursday and feel like I can win the golf tournament. I need that confidence, and now I really have it.”
“I’m still not where I want to be with my golf swing, even though it’s trending in the right direction. I got a little off track at Colonial and continue to make small adjustments to make it work going forward.”

But it’s not all sunshine and rainbows for the American. In fact, he enters this week’s major with a foot injury. When he was leaving the golf course a few days ago, he caught his right foot, causing him to now have a sore heel that could potentially cause problems during the swing.
“It’s been painful, but it’s not something that will get worse from playing or anything, so I’m okay. Yesterday was better than the day before, which was better than the day before that. So I guess continued treatment and rest will make the problem disappear.”

This week’s US Open is played at Torrey Pines, a course where Jordan Spieth has historically struggled. In his six starts here, he has missed the cut three times and at best finished tied for 19th. But on the other hand, he has not played here in a major before…
“In the US Open, you will play poorly if you’re weak off the tee. You can get away with it on other courses but not during a US Open. I may not have much success to lean on here, but if I adjust my plan a bit, I can regain confidence and hopefully be on the right track.”
“I think my game today allows me to be a little more relaxed and calm. If I make a couple of bogeys, it’s okay because I know I’ll make birdies. Instead of how it was before when it felt like I would crash immediately,” said Spieth.
