Anthony Kim-LIV Golf Hype Ruptured, Tiger Woods’s Prodigy Won’t Be PGA Tour’s Nightmare, Per Reports

In recent developments, the much-anticipated return of Anthony Kim to professional golf, particularly with LIV Golf, seems unlikely.

Despite swirling rumors and speculation about Kim joining the breakaway league, Flushing It Golf has reported that Ben Campbell and Wade Ormsby are the designated reserves for LIV Golf’s upcoming Mayakoba event, with no sign of Anthony Kim. This revelation dashes hopes of witnessing Kim tee up in Mexico on February 2, as initially anticipated.

Anthony Kim, once hailed as the next Tiger Woods at the young age of 26, stepped away from competitive golf in 2012 due to a severe Achilles tendon injury. Despite expectations of a comeback after surgery, Kim underwent numerous subsequent surgeries, leading to an extended absence from the sport. Reports suggested that Kim’s potential return was being negotiated with LIV Golf, with golf icon Greg Norman reportedly in talks with the elusive PGA Tour cult hero.

The allure of LIV Golf for Anthony Kim was multifaceted. Firstly, there was speculation that Kim might need to forgo his $10 million insurance payout – a considerable sum already partially claimed – if he were to return to the traditional PGA Tour. LIV Golf, known for its substantial financial commitments, was expected to match this insurance sum upfront, presenting a compelling financial proposition for Kim. In contrast, the PGA Tour, despite its promises of Signature events, may not offer comparable upfront financial incentives.

However, even with the potential financial advantages, Kim’s return to LIV Golf remains uncertain. The 38-year-old golfer’s 12-year hiatus introduces uncertainty about his competitive form and ability to secure significant earnings in conventional tournaments. LIV Golf’s no-cut format and guaranteed paychecks regardless of leaderboard position might have seemed a safer option for Kim, but as of now, the future of Anthony Kim in professional golf remains shrouded in mystery.
