“Done so much for the game of golf” – Lydia Ko praises Lexi Thompson for inspiring junior girls amid retirement talks

Lydia Ko recently celebrated Lexi Thompson’s impact on golf, particularly her role in inspiring young female players. With Thompson announcing her retirement earlier this year, Ko expressed her admiration for all that Thompson has contributed, both on and off the course.

Thompson, who turned professional in 2010, has won 11 LPGA Tour events and claimed her first Major title at the Chevron Championship in 2014. Ko highlighted Thompson’s presence at Pro-Am events and the ways she inspires junior golfers, suggesting that even after retirement, Thompson will remain connected to the sport.

Amidst retirement rumors of her own, Ko addressed her plans, clarifying that while she once aimed to retire by 30, she hasn’t set a definitive date. Following her gold medal win at the Paris Olympics and induction into the LPGA Hall of Fame, the 27-year-old New Zealander remains focused on her career.

Ko, who has had a successful season with four top-10 finishes, will compete at the AIG Women’s Open. Reflecting on her journey, she noted that while she has achieved much, her passion for the game continues, making her unsure about when she will eventually step away from professional golf.
