In a recent interview before the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, Jordan Spieth had nothing but praise for Dustin Johnson, a player who has made his mark in the LIV Golf League. Spieth described Johnson as a “Hall of Famer” known for his skill and lack of controversy on the golf course. Pebble Beach, a familiar setting for Johnson, is where he often played alongside his father-in-law, Wayne Gretzky. Johnson has clinched victory there twice and consistently secured top-10 finishes. However, due to his resignation from the PGA Tour in June, Johnson is now ineligible to compete in the tournament.

Spieth’s admiration for Johnson was evident as he mentioned, “I think DJ being maybe the first one to go over there [to LIV] and somebody who is not, never was really controversial over here and more so just kind of worked his butt off, it paid off, got his breakthrough at the U.S. Open, then went and won the Masters.”

He further praised Johnson’s contributions to team events, stating, “[He’s] just a Hall of Fame player that didn’t create controversy with any other players and played on a bunch of Presidents Cup and Ryder Cup teams. Represented them really well. He was a friend of mine. He is a friend of mine. I just haven’t seen him. But I always really enjoyed playing with him and being around him. He plays fast. Easy to play with. Fun to watch.”

Spieth’s kind words did not go unnoticed by Johnson’s family. Janet Gretzky, Johnson’s mother-in-law, posted a response on social media, underscoring the respect and admiration that Johnson has earned.

DJ’s brother and caddie, Austin Johnson, succinctly summed up the sentiment by writing “pure class” beneath the clip shared by GolfDigest. This response from the family demonstrates the appreciation they have for the support and recognition that Johnson receives from his fellow golfers.

Looking ahead, Dustin Johnson is poised to return to action in the upcoming second season of the LIV Golf League, which boasts a staggering total prize money of $405 million. As he continues to make waves in the world of professional golf, it’s clear that Johnson’s talent and sportsmanship are celebrated not only by his family but by his peers like Jordan Spieth as well.
