Sam Kerr, Lauren James named to The Best FIFA Women’s World XI for 2023 Congrats!

Laurel James and Sam Kerr, two outstanding athletes, have earned their spots in The Best FIFA Women’s World XI for 2023.

The prestigious awards ceremony took place in London, providing a convenient location for nominees like Emma Hayes, who secured a well-deserved position in the World XI alongside James. Despite facing tough competition and finishing second in the Women’s Coach of the Year category, Hayes’ recognition adds another feather to her cap. Notably, Sam Kerr, James’ teammate, was also selected for the World XI, even though her recent absence, attributed to ACL surgery, prevented her from attending the event.

Surprisingly, seven English players found a place in the World XI, a remarkable achievement even after Spain’s victory in the World Cup final. Aitana Bonmati’s triumph as the Women’s Player of the Year highlighted Spain’s success. Meanwhile, on the men’s side, Lionel Messi once again secured the Player of the Year accolade, narrowly surpassing Erling Haaland. The undisputed success of Pep Guardiola with Manchester City made him an obvious choice for Coach of the Year.

Additionally, Brazilian legend Marta received a special award, solidifying her legacy, and will now be honored with an award named after her for the best women’s goal of the year.
