Sam Kerr mocks soccer commentator who seemingly made a shocking mistake during the Matildas’ huge upset win over Germany

Sam Kerr, sidelined from the Matildas’ impressive 2-1 victory over Germany due to an ACL injury, made waves off the field with a pointed comment on Instagram. When a commentator mistakenly referred to midfielder Kyra Cooney-Cross as “Keira” during the live broadcast, Kerr took to social media to mock the error.

Her sarcastic post, “well done Keira,” quickly gained traction, with many fans expressing their support and frustration over the mispronunciation. Cooney-Cross had just scored a stunning long-range goal, and the commentator’s slip only added fuel to the excitement and discussions surrounding the victory.

The game marked a significant milestone for Cooney-Cross, whose first goal for Australia came after 50 caps and delivered one of the night’s standout moments. Despite an early lead by Germany, with Selina Cerci scoring in the fifth minute, the Matildas turned the match around.

Cooney-Cross’s spectacular goal from nearly 40 meters caught German goalkeeper Stina Johannes off guard, and a subsequent header by Clare Hunt from a Steph Catley corner secured the win.

Under interim coach Tom Sermanni, the Matildas celebrated their first win over Germany since 2005, revitalizing their momentum after a disappointing Paris Olympics run. The team now looks ahead to their upcoming matches against Brazil and Chinese Taipei in November and December.
