Scheffler, McIlroy overwhelm DeChambeau and Koepka in Vegas ‘pillow fight’

The highly anticipated Crypto.Com Showdown in Las Vegas pitted PGA Tour stalwarts Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy against LIV Golf stars Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka in a Ryder Cup-style playoff at Shadow Creek Golf Course.

Despite the hype, the event turned into a lopsided affair as Scheffler and McIlroy dominated the match. The PGA Tour duo, fresh from competitive action, displayed superior form and cohesion. Scheffler, fresh off a win at the Hero World Challenge, and McIlroy, the reigning DP World Tour Order of Merit winner, made quick work of their opponents. By contrast, DeChambeau and Koepka, out of action since the LIV Golf season finale in September, showed signs of rust.

The match unfolded in three formats: Better Ball, Foursomes, and Singles, with Scheffler and McIlroy setting the tone early. They won the Better Ball segment by the fourth hole and sealed the Foursomes by the 12th. In the Singles, Scheffler’s birdie on the 16th hole secured the win, ending the match with four holes to spare.

The victory not only underscored the PGA Tour duo’s preparation and skill but also earned them a $10 million cryptocurrency payout. While DeChambeau and Koepka had moments of brilliance, their lack of recent play was evident in a contest that ended decisively in just over four hours on a crisp Las Vegas evening.
