Shock, waves at Genesis Invitational: Jordan Spieth Disqualified for Scorecard Slip-up!

Jordan Spieth’s journey at the Genesis Invitational took an unexpected turn as he faced disqualification in Pacific Palisades, California. After shooting a 2-over 73 on Friday, Spieth was disqualified for signing an incorrect scorecard, according to the PGA Tour.

The Texan golfer, who opened the PGA Tour’s third signature event with a promising 5-under 66 on Thursday, found himself in contention but faltered on the second day. Despite a disappointing showing, Spieth was tied for 20th and 10 shots back of leader Patrick Cantlay before his disqualification.

The pivotal moment occurred on the 245-yard, par-3 fourth hole, where Spieth mistakenly signed for a score one stroke lower than reality. Despite hitting his tee shot into the left rough, chipping to within four feet, and missing the par putt, Spieth recorded a score of 3 instead of 4 on the hole, leading to his disqualification.

In response to his disqualification, Spieth took to social media to express his remorse and acceptance of responsibility. “Today, I signed for an incorrect scorecard and stepped out of the scoring area, after thinking I went through all procedures to make sure it was correct,” Spieth wrote. “Rules are rules, and I take full responsibility.”

The Genesis Invitational also saw tournament host Tiger Woods withdraw due to sickness earlier in the day. Spieth, who last won at the 2022 RBC Heritage, finished tied for sixth at the WM Phoenix Open the week before, adding to the rollercoaster of emotions experienced at the Genesis Invitational.
