Lindsey Vonn, one of the most decorated skiers in history, is poised for an extraordinary comeback nearly six years after retiring. The 40-year-old, whose illustrious career includes 82 World Cup victories and three Olympic medals, is set to return to competitive skiing this weekend in St. Moritz, Switzerland.

Vonn retired in 2019 after enduring multiple knee surgeries, seemingly ending a career that redefined Alpine skiing. However, her passion for the sport and a successful partial knee replacement have reignited her drive.

With the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics in sight, Vonn is eager to push her limits once more. “It’s a completely new world for me,” she shared. “I haven’t felt this good in 15 years.”

Vonn’s journey back to the World Cup circuit is nothing short of inspiring. She recently tested her form in FIS races and served as a forerunner in Beaver Creek, gradually ramping up her intensity. Known as the greatest speed racer in Alpine skiing, Vonn holds the record for most World Cup wins in Downhill (43) and Super G (28).

Despite the challenges of age and time away, she remains optimistic, citing newfound strength and a pain-free return to the slopes. As she prepares for her first World Cup start since 2019, the anticipation is palpable.

“I have butterflies of excitement,” Vonn admitted. With her return, the countdown to seeing one of the sport’s greatest icons in action once again has begun.
