Kerr unlikely to return for Chelsea until new year

Chelsea is set to be without star striker Sam Kerr until February or March as she continues her recovery from an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury. Chelsea coach Sonia Bompastor confirmed that Kerr, who has yet to begin modified training with the team, remains on an individualized rehabilitation plan.

The Australian international has been sidelined since sustaining the injury in January, and Bompastor emphasized the importance of allowing adequate time for her recovery. Additionally, the team is managing the absence of Lauren James, another key forward, who is expected to return in the new year after a calf injury.

Despite these setbacks, Chelsea has dominated the Women’s Super League (WSL) this season, boasting a perfect record of eight wins from eight league matches and sitting five points clear at the top of the table. Their winning streak extends to 12 matches across all competitions under Bompastor’s leadership, following her appointment as Emma Hayes’ successor.

Chelsea will aim to maintain their momentum as they face Brighton at home this Sunday, followed by crucial fixtures against Leicester and Champions League opponents Twente and Real Madrid before the winter break.
