Though the LPGA has many events on its tour, they are about to add a new event to its schedule next year. In 2024, the LPGA will be adding the FM Global Championship which will be played from Aug 29-Sept 1 at the TPC Boston Golf Club in Arnold Palmer Blvd, Massachusetts.
The field will be comprised of 144 players who will be competing for a $3.5 million purse, making it the highest purse on the LPGA Tour, other than the majors. This announcement comes several months after LIV Golf attempted to make a deal with the women’s tour.
This year, in April, LIV Golf CEO Greg Norman expressed interest in the LPGA and LET, initiating discussions between all parties. However, those talks did not yield any concrete results. Nonetheless, months later, the LPGA introduced a new tournament.
The championship will also feature a special event at Fenway Park, marking the entry of Fenway Sports Management, FM Global, into the sports arena, and this will be their first collaboration with the LPGA Tour.
Martin Dempster, chief golf writer for The Scotsman, shared the news on Twitter, emphasizing that this newly created event with a field of 144 players will compete for a $3.5 million purse, the largest outside of the majors and Tour Championship.
The president and CEO of FM Global, Malcolm Roberts, expressed their pride in partnering with the LPGA Tour, stating, “We are proud to partner with the LPGA Tour to support this new, marquee event and bring women’s professional golf back to New England.”
Speaking about this new venture, Robert continued, “The FM Global Championship provides a tremendous platform to promote diversity and inclusion on the playing field and in the workplace, raise awareness of FM Global’s unique approach to helping clients protect their businesses and mitigate loss, engage our employees, and drive positive impact in our communities.”
Designed by Arnold Palmer and Gil Hanse, the TPC Boston course has a rich history, having hosted 17 PGA TOUR Events, 13 of which were FedEx Cup Playoff Events. This event marks its first foray into hosting an LPGA tournament.
