Lexi Thompson, an 11-time LPGA Tour winner, will now partner with the four-time PGA Tour winner Rickie Fowler, aiming to bring their collective skills to the forefront.
The Grant Thornton Invitational is set to replace the former QBE Shootout and will debut as a mixed-gender event featuring four teams and three rounds: scramble, foursome (alternate shots), and modified fourballs. Lexi and Rickie will form the fourth group, alongside other notable pairings such as Jessica Korda’s sister, Nelly Korda, and Tony Finau, as well as the promising golf sensation Rose Zhang, along with Canadian golfers Corey Conners and Brooke Henderson.
Remarkably, both Rickie Fowler and Jessica Korda were previously Grant Thornton ambassadors. Jessica Korda’s absence has paved the way for Lexi Thompson, a Cobra Puma Golf ambassador, to potentially step into an ambassadorial role for this year’s event. This significant development aligns with another milestone in Lexi’s already illustrious career.
Earlier this week, it was announced that Lexi Thompson would participate in the PGA Shriners Children’s Open, making her only the fifth woman in history to compete on the PGA Tour. The last time a woman competed in a PGA Tour event was in 2018 when Brittany Lincicome participated in the Barbasol Championship.
